Tank Setup
20-gallon minimum for a school of 10; 40+ gallons for a display school of 20+. They thrive in well-planted aquariums with open mid-water swimming space. Soft, slightly acidic water is important — maintain consistent parameters. Dark substrate, driftwood, and Indian almond leaves enhance coloration. The tank must be mature and stable before adding rummy-noses.
Diet
Omnivores. High-quality micro-pellets or fine flake twice daily; supplement with frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms 3–4 times weekly. Small mouths require appropriately sized food. A varied diet maintains the vivid red coloration.

Perfect for planted community tanks and discus setups (they tolerate the high temperatures discus require). Ideal companions: cardinal tetras, corydoras sterbai, German blue rams, dwarf gouramis, and similar soft-water species.
