Endler's livebearers are miniature marvels of color and adaptability. Male Endlers display extraordinary iridescent patterns β orange, black, green, and blue combinations that shift under different lighting β packed into a body under an inch long. They are ideal for nano aquariums of 5β10 gallons, are incredibly hardy, and breed so readily that a small group quickly becomes a colony. Closely related to guppies, they can hybridize with them β which pure Endler keepers carefully avoid.
Water Requirements
| Parameter | Ideal Range |
|---|---|
| Temperature | 72β82Β°F (22β28Β°C) |

Tank Setup
5β10 gallons is entirely appropriate for a colony of Endlers β one of the few fish genuinely suited to nano tanks. Dense floating plants (frogbit, salvinia) provide cover for fry and surface interest. Fine gravel or sand substrate. Gentle filtration β sponge filters are ideal and won't suck up fry. Keep males:females ratio at 1:2 or more to prevent male harassment.
Diet
Omnivores that accept most foods. Quality nano flake or micro-pellets twice daily; supplement with frozen baby brine shrimp and daphnia. They actively graze algae β a useful trait in planted tanks. Feed very small amounts; their tiny mouths require appropriately sized food.
Breeding
Endlers give birth to 5β25 live fry every 23β25 days. Fry are tiny but fully formed and immediately independent. With dense plant cover, enough fry survive predation from adults to maintain a self-sustaining colony in a planted tank. Separate fry if you want to maximize survival rates.
